Introduction:Uttarakhand landslides and floods
Uttarakhand is a paradise nestled in the lap of the Himalayas. Surrounded by rivers, mountains, and lush greenery, every corner of this region is breathtakingly beautiful. Every year, countless tourists visit this land, drawn not only by its scenic beauty but also by its rich religious heritage, attracting millions of pilgrims. It boasts five Kedarnath shrines, five sacred confluence sites, and the four main pilgrimage sites of Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath. However, this beautiful region is also constantly vulnerable to natural disasters – landslides and floods.
As soon as the monsoon season begins, the roads here start getting damaged, and landslides occur. Even when new roads are built or existing ones are widened, they all crumble and collapse within the next season. This happens because of deforestation and because the water from the dams weakens the soil on the mountainsides. All this so-called development is against nature, and the local people have to bear the brunt of the resulting loss of life and property. Yet, the people here have never developed any negative feelings towards their mountains.
This is what makes the people here truly inspiring—they face these challenges time and again, always with courage.
